About the Institute of Law, Nirma University
Institute of law, Nirma University was set up in the year 2007 and since then has been striving to work towards its vision to promote excellence and knowledge in the field of law and education by providing a diverse and responsible platform to individuals and organisations. With this objective the Institute holds various events, lectures and activities to give its students the best platform for a better insight of the future and law.
About the Conference
The conference aimed to address the growing threat of global climate change and increasing climate litigation by inviting multiple stakeholders to engage in discussion on aspects relating to these issues. It provided a primary forum for the exchange of knowledge, recommendations, expert viewpoints, and forward-thinking thoughts related to the topic of climate change litigation.
The conference was organised by Professor Dr Madhuri Parikh, Director and Dean of the Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Speakers
Justice Kumar has served as a judge in the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India after which he was appointed Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal until 2017.
Justice Preston is the Chief Judge of the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales.
Professor Gitanjali Nain Gill (Dr Gita Gill) FAcSS
Prof. Gill is a professor of environmental law at the Northumbria School of Law, Northumbria University, UK.
Dr. Ivano Alogna is the Research Leader in Environmental and Climate Change Law at BIICL. Moreover, he is a licensed Attorney-at-Law at the Bar of Milan.
Prof. Zahar is the founder and editor-in-chief of the international, peer-reviewed, journal Climate Law (published by Brill/Nijhoff). He joined the United Nations as a legal expert. He is currently working on a monograph on climate change law in China.
Professor Parikh is the Director and Dean (I/c.) at the Institute of Law, Nirma University, specializing in Environmental Law. With over 17 years of experience, she focuses on research areas such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Climate Justice, and Forest Rights Act implementation.
