Programme

The Chinese National Conference of the Global Toolbox on Corporate Climate Litigation was organised by Prof Qin Tianbao and his colleagues.

It took place on 1 June 2024, at the Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL), Wuhan University, where Prof Qin is Director of Research.

The conference involved the following presentations and was followed by a discussion session:

  • The Theory and Comparative view of Corporate Climate Change Litigation
  • Supporting "Dual Carbon Goal" Through Hearing Climate Change Litigation in Accordance with Law

Speakers

Qin Tianbao 

Professor, Director of Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL), Wuhan University; Vice President & Secretary-General, Chinese Society of Environment and Resources Law (CSERL).

Prof. Qin Tianbao is a National Distinguished Professor of Law, and Director of the Research Center of the Supreme Court of China on Environmental Adjunction on Theory, Wuhan University. He headed or participated in drafting of more than 30 major environmental bills, and participated in negotiations on biodiversity, ocean and climate change issues as legal consultant of Chinese delegations. He is also the author of several books and more than 100 articles in the fields of law and policy concerning climate change and energy, biodiversity and biotechnology, water and ocean, environment and trade, and trans-boundary environmental issues.

Sun Qian

Senior Judge of the Third Level of the Environmental Resources Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court.

Judge Sun Qian, has a PhD in Law, and is a Senior Judge of the Third Level of the Environmental Resources Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court. With expertise and abundant experience in the practice of environmental law and natural resource law, she has reviewed many significant cases with implications for the advancement of environmental resources law in China.

Wang Haijun

Senior Partner/ Deputy Director, Beijing DHH Law Firm.

Lawyer Wang Haijun, as Legal Counsel for the Ministry of Ecological Environment of the People's Republic of China, has participated in many legislative projects and handled a large number of administrative reconsideration and administrative litigation cases related to environmental protection. He is an expert in environment law, IP and reform of state-owned enterprises, and provides pro bono legal services to safeguard legitimate rights and interests related to environment protection.

Xiao Lin

Deputy Director of the Legal and Compliance Department, National Carbon Market Information Network.

Ms. Xiao Lin is the head of the Legal and Compliance Department of National Carbon Market Information Network. She is an expert in legal issues related to carbon market, carbon finance, and carbon emission trading. She has a profound understanding of law, regulation, policy and environmental standards of carbon trading, and a wealth of practical experience.

Zhou Chen 

Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the Environment and Energy Law Research Center, Law School, Xiamen University.

Assoc Prof. Zhou Chen is an expert in international environmental law and climate change law. Her research areas focus on climate change law, international environmental law and SDGs, and environmental justice. She has published academic papers in major legal journals both at home and abroad (including SSCI and CSSCI) and completed an English monograph in the field of international climate law.

Gu Jin 

Lecturer, School of Literature and Law, Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University.

Dr. Gu Jin is a lecturer at Zhejiang A & F University, and teaches environmental law, international environmental law, and climate change law. Her major research interest focuses on international environmental law and climate change law, with papers published and reported on academic conferences.
