Institute Welcomes New Research Fellow

The Institute is pleased to welcome its latest Research Fellow, Jacob van de Velden. Jacob has been appointed by the Institute to work on its European Commission-funded project on Legalisation of Public Documents between EU Member States.

Prior to his engagement by the Institute he was engaged at Groningen University (NL) and the TMC Asser Institute (NL) as a research fellow, conducting a PhD research project in the field of Private International Law which focuses on the influence of EC Directives on party autonomy in international contract law (2003- ). This research project is continued under the supervision of Professor Mathijs ten Wolde, Professor of Private Law and in particular Private International Law at Groningen University and Director of the Ulrik Huber Institute of Private International Law (NL).

Other prior engagements were at the European Commission, trainee at DG Freedom, Security and Justice (2005) and the European Parliament, assistant of John Bowis OBE Member of the European Parliament for London (UK) (2005). In the Commission he has worked on Commission proposals and instruments such as Rome I, Rome II and Brussels I. In the Parliament he has worked on the Commission's proposal regarding the registration, evaluation and authorization of chemical substances REACH.
