The 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Antarctic Treaty was marked by the adoption of a Declaration on Antarctic Co-operation at the recent consultative meeting held in Buenos Aires.
Jill Barrett, the Institute's Senior Research Fellow in Public International Law, attended the meeting as an expert on international law relating to the protection of the Antarctic environment, advising the delegation of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition ("ASOC").
The achievements of the meeting are summarised by the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat here, and by ASOC, from its perspective, here.
